What many of us call genetics is actually not based on genes. Though we might want to blame our genes for making us feel and look older than we are, if we’re honest with ourselves, we’ve not just inherited the genes, but also the bad habits of our parents. For example, if you’ve come from a family who didn’t exercise much and who didn’t eat well, you probably mimicked those actions and that’s why you’re following the same aging path as your parents. The good news is that it’s well within your control to change these patterns in order to pass on good habits to your children.
Your Biological Parents Are Stressful People
Stress plays a major role in the way that you age. If your parents were stressed people, chances are high you are too. In addition, if you have a strained relationship with your parents, this can affect the way you age. The stress you feel might cause you to stay away from your parents, which can leave you feeling isolated and despondent. By taking the time to learn to get along with your parents, you can rebuild the sense of community and family, which can reduce your biological age.
Take Care of Your Biological Age Yourself
Choosing to blame your parents for the speed of your aging is natural. But that doesn’t mean they need to be at fault for all of your wrinkles and lines. Instead, look to your parents for lessons and make yourself a better (and younger) person for it.
