If you’ve ever looked a picture of the President when he begins his term in office to the time that he is out of office, you will have seen a remarkable difference. In those four or eight years, this powerful man tends to age at least ten years or more, it seems. What’s baffling about this to some is that this person also has access to some of the best chefs in the world as well as a world class exercise studio. So why is he looking older? You can take a lesson from the leader of the free world when it comes to lowering your biological age.
The Intense Stress
Choosing to be the President is a stressful enough decision, but actually running the country is even more intense. When the weight of the world and of millions of citizens rests on one decision you make, it can cause your body to shut down because of all of the adrenaline and cortisol being released. You begin to feel ragged, your adrenal system doesn’t work as well, etc. The body simply begins to break down because it is worrying about something all of the time. Even for those Presidents who take the time to get away from their work in order to relax, they are still worrying about their work when they are away from the White House. Stress reducing techniques can certainly help, though they may not be able to keep up with the pressures of the position.
Many a Sleepless Night
Since the world doesn’t follow the same workday schedule, the President has to be on call at all hours of the day. They will have to handle various problems in the middle of the night, often, when the other half of the world is awake. They might be called to make an important decision in the middle of the night, causing them to lose sleep, possibly for days in a larger crisis. This not helpful for one’s aging process and can certainly make the present look older and feel older than he actually may be. Even when the President is able to get eight hours of sleep a night, the deficit they’ve already created is hard to overcome.
Bad Habits a Plenty
Some Presidents also have bad habits when they get into office, causing them to age more rapidly. Some Presidents will smoke, which can increase the aging process many times over. Though they might try to quit, the stress of their position makes it easier to stick with the habits they love and to deal with the ramifications later. Other Presidents might have troubles managing a junk food habit, which can lead to heart disease and other conditions which can age the body.
